Ingredients

  • 200g / 7.05oz Spelt flour
  • 75g / 2.65oz Ground hazelnuts
  • 2 tsp Cream of tartar baking powder
  • 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon powder
  • 3 Eggs
  • 350g / 12.35oz Apple puree
  • 75ml / 2.54fl oz Milk
  • 50ml / 1.69fl oz Neutral oil
  • 4 Apples
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice

Preparation

  1. Mix 200g / 7.05oz Spelt flour, 75g / 2.65oz Ground hazelnuts, 2 tsp Cream of tartar baking powder, and 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon powder in a bowl.
  2. Beat 3 Eggs until frothy in another bowl. Add 350g / 12.35oz Apple puree, 75ml / 2.54fl oz Milk, and 50ml / 1.69fl oz Neutral oil. Stir well.
  3. Combine the dry and wet mixtures until smooth.
  4. Preheat the waffle iron to medium heat. Grease with oil.
  5. Pour 4 tbsp batter into the waffle iron and bake for 3 minutes. Repeat to make 5 waffles.
  6. Wash, halve, core, and slice 4 Apples into 25 slices. Drizzle with 1 tbsp Lemon juice. For children under 3, steam apple slices in water.
  7. Separate waffles into hearts and place a wooden stick into each. Add an apple slice on top as a sail.

Good to know

For babies and young children, always use Ceylon cinnamon as it contains minimal coumarin, which can affect the liver.
